Overview

SAP GUI for Windows 8.00 is the current generation of SAP's classic desktop client and the first full 64-bit release, providing access to ABAP-based SAP systems with updated rendering, security and accessibility.

It became generally available on 27 January 2023. SAP mainstream maintenance runs until 12 January 2027 — the point after which SAP stops delivering new patches, legal and regulatory updates, and support packages for the release. Crucially, SAP offers no extended-maintenance phase for this release, so the mainstream date is a hard cut-off rather than the start of a paid extension — there is no buying of extra time at the version level. A separate transition milestone of 31 July 2027 — Restricted support (8.10 shipment delay) is also tracked, pending confirmation. With the deadline close, organisations still on this release have little slack left and should already be executing — not just planning — their move.

Its successor is SAP GUI for Windows 8.10, with SAP Fiori as the strategic web-based front end. Because GUI releases are decoupled from server upgrades, customers can adopt new GUI versions on their own cadence.

End-user-computing and Basis teams should track the GUI 8.00 dates (which can shift with the 8.10 schedule) and plan client upgrades accordingly, since an unsupported desktop client is a security and compatibility risk even when the back end is current.
