Overview

SAP GUI for Windows 7.70 is a previous release of the classic SAP desktop client used to access ABAP-based systems. It shipped in early 2021 and was the standard front end for many users before 8.00 arrived.

It became generally available on 29 January 2021. SAP mainstream maintenance ended 9 April 2024 — beyond which no further support packages, legal updates or standard fixes are produced by SAP for this version. Crucially, SAP offers no extended-maintenance phase for this release, so the mainstream date is a hard cut-off rather than the start of a paid extension — there is no buying of extra time at the version level. Systems still on this release are now running without standard SAP support, which is a security, compliance and audit exposure that should be closed quickly.

The successor is SAP GUI for Windows 8.00 (and ultimately 8.10), as well as Fiori-based web access. Upgrading the desktop client is a straightforward rollout, independent of back-end upgrades.

Desktop and end-user-computing teams should ensure clients have moved off 7.70, which is already past its support date, to stay on a maintained GUI release that receives security and compatibility fixes.
