SAP Process Integration (PI) was the second-generation name for SAP's integration middleware (formerly XI), providing message-based A2A and B2B integration across the landscape before being extended into Process Orchestration.
It first shipped around 2007. As a continuously delivered cloud service it follows a rolling-release model: SAP updates it on a regular cadence and publishes no single end-of-maintenance date, so there is no countdown clock for the line as a whole. Individual data-center releases may carry their own short windows, but customers are kept current automatically rather than facing a version cliff.
PI evolved into SAP Process Orchestration (PO) and, strategically, into the cloud-based SAP Integration Suite. Organisations still on PI should plan a move to PO's supported level or directly to Integration Suite.
Integration teams maintaining legacy PI interfaces should understand its place in the lineage and the maintenance position of the PO release they are (or should be) on, since that is where the live deadlines sit.
