SAP Exchange Infrastructure (XI) was SAP's first-generation integration broker, the original NetWeaver middleware for connecting SAP and non-SAP systems through a central integration engine. It established the architecture later carried forward under new names.
It first shipped around 2003. As a continuously delivered cloud service it follows a rolling-release model: SAP updates it on a regular cadence and publishes no single end-of-maintenance date, so there is no countdown clock for the line as a whole. Individual data-center releases may carry their own short windows, but customers are kept current automatically rather than facing a version cliff.
XI was renamed and evolved into SAP Process Integration (PI), then Process Orchestration (PO), and the strategic successor today is SAP Integration Suite on SAP BTP. Customers do not run XI today; the lineage matters when planning the eventual move off PI/PO.
