SAP NetWeaver 7.4 is a later release of SAP's technology platform that introduced broad SAP HANA support for ABAP-based systems, making it a common stepping-stone for HANA-readiness ahead of S/4HANA.
It became generally available on 10 May 2013. SAP mainstream maintenance ended 31 December 2020 — after which SAP no longer ships corrections, legal changes or new support package stacks for this version. Crucially, SAP offers no extended-maintenance phase for this release, so the mainstream date is a hard cut-off rather than the start of a paid extension — there is no buying of extra time at the version level. Systems still on this release are now running without standard SAP support, which is a security, compliance and audit exposure that should be closed quickly.
Its supported successor is SAP NetWeaver 7.5, with the S/4HANA stack and SAP BTP as the strategic destinations. Upgrading to 7.5 restores mainstream support for stacks still on 7.4.
Basis teams should treat lingering 7.4 stacks as upgrade candidates; the release is past mainstream maintenance with no extension, so dependent applications need a plan.
