SAP NetWeaver 7.3 is a mid-generation release of SAP's technology platform, hosting ABAP and Java components for Business Suite, BW, PI and portal scenarios in many landscapes built in the early 2010s.
It became generally available on 30 May 2011. SAP mainstream maintenance ended 31 December 2020 — the point after which SAP stops delivering new patches, legal and regulatory updates, and support packages for the release. Crucially, SAP offers no extended-maintenance phase for this release, so the mainstream date is a hard cut-off rather than the start of a paid extension — there is no buying of extra time at the version level. Systems still on this release are now running without standard SAP support, which is a security, compliance and audit exposure that should be closed quickly.
The successor is SAP NetWeaver 7.5 (and, strategically, the S/4HANA stack and SAP BTP). A 7.5 upgrade is the standard way to bring a 7.3 stack back into mainstream support.
Platform owners running 7.3-based components should plan upgrades, as the release is past mainstream maintenance with no extended phase — a supportability gap for anything still depending on it.
