SAP NetWeaver 7.5 is the final and current release of SAP's classic ABAP and Java technology platform — the supported foundation beneath the workloads that have not yet moved to SAP S/4HANA or the cloud, including Business Suite systems, SAP BW, SAP Process Orchestration and SAP Enterprise Portal. Because so many products are deployed on top of it, NetWeaver 7.5 is less a standalone application than the shared engine whose maintenance position quietly governs several others.
It became generally available on 20 October 2015. SAP mainstream maintenance runs until 31 December 2027 — the date from which SAP ceases routine corrections, security notes and legal/regulatory updates for the release. For customers who opt in, a paid extended-maintenance phase then carries support to 31 December 2030, after which only customer-specific maintenance remains available. That leaves a workable but finite window; given that SAP transformations routinely run multi-year, scoping and budgeting should be underway rather than deferred.
There is no further classic NetWeaver release to upgrade to; instead, workloads move forward according to use case — onto the SAP S/4HANA technology stack for ERP-centric scenarios, or onto SAP BTP for integration, extension and analytics scenarios. Its maintenance dates are aligned with SAP Business Suite 7, which is why NetWeaver 7.5 effectively acts as the platform clock sitting underneath Process Orchestration, Enterprise Portal and BW.
Basis, integration and BI teams should recognise that NetWeaver 7.5's deadlines bound the supportability of multiple dependent products at once. That makes it a central reference point when sequencing the wider modernisation roadmap: decisions about PO, EP and BW cannot be taken in isolation from the platform they all share.
