SAP NetWeaver 7.0x is the older generation of SAP's ABAP/Java technology platform (including 7.0 and its early enhancement packages) that underpinned Business Suite systems and many custom and add-on stacks through the late 2000s.
It became generally available on 6 June 2006. SAP mainstream maintenance ended 31 December 2017 — beyond which no further support packages, legal updates or standard fixes are produced by SAP for this version. Crucially, SAP offers no extended-maintenance phase for this release, so the mainstream date is a hard cut-off rather than the start of a paid extension — there is no buying of extra time at the version level. Systems still on this release are now running without standard SAP support, which is a security, compliance and audit exposure that should be closed quickly.
The supported successor is SAP NetWeaver 7.5, and strategically the S/4HANA technology stack and SAP BTP. Systems on 7.0x are typically upgraded to 7.5 as part of keeping the wider landscape supportable.
Basis and platform teams should identify any 7.0x stacks still in service — these are already well past mainstream maintenance — and fold their upgrade into the broader Business Suite/S4HANA roadmap.
