SAP SuccessFactors is SAP's cloud human capital management (HCM) suite — core HR (Employee Central), payroll, talent, learning, recruiting and people analytics — which joined SAP through the 2012 SuccessFactors acquisition. One branding point is worth noting for searchers: for several years SAP marketed the suite as SAP SuccessFactors HXM ("Human Experience Management"), but it has largely returned to the HCM label, and the SAP Help Portal now refers to the SAP SuccessFactors HCM suite. HXM and HCM here describe the same product.

Employee Central is positioned as the cloud HR core, with SAP Integration Suite as SAP's preferred integration middleware back to S/4HANA and other systems.
HR and HRIS teams planning the move from on-premise SAP HCM, or standardising HR in the cloud, are the audience. Whether your organisation says "HXM" or "HCM", it is the same SuccessFactors suite; delivered as SaaS, it is continuously updated and carries no end-of-maintenance clock of its own.
