Overview

SAP HCM for SAP S/4HANA (informally "H4S4") is the continuation of the on-premise SAP ERP HCM code line, delivered as part of SAP S/4HANA 2022 and later. It preserves the familiar HCM functionality — notably payroll and time — on a modern HANA foundation.

SAP has committed to maintaining it until at least 2040, giving organisations a long on-premise runway beyond the 2027 SAP ERP HCM deadline.

It is explicitly a bridge, not the end state: SAP positions SAP SuccessFactors as the strategic cloud successor, and H4S4 is designed to ease a later one-to-one transition of Core HR, Time, Payroll, Learning and Recruiting to SuccessFactors.
