SAP Financial Consolidation 10.1 (widely known as SAP FC, SAP BFC or BOFC) is SAP's standalone statutory-consolidation and close application, engineered for complex, multi-GAAP legal consolidation, intercompany elimination and regulatory reporting in large multinational groups. The product's heritage is Cartesis Magnitude, acquired by Business Objects in mid-2007 and brought into SAP when SAP's own acquisition of Business Objects — announced in October 2007 — completed in January 2008; release 10.1 modernised it with a redesigned web user interface and SAP HANA readiness, and it runs equally against Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle or SAP HANA — one reason it persists in non-SAP-centric landscapes.
It became generally available on 15 July 2015. SAP mainstream maintenance runs until 31 December 2030 — the point after which SAP stops delivering new patches, legal and regulatory updates, and support packages for the release. No extended-maintenance phase is offered, so the mainstream date is a hard cut-off after which only customer-specific maintenance remains. That horizon looks comfortable, but consolidation replacements are notoriously long projects, so the runway is shorter than it appears.
SAP's designated successor is SAP S/4HANA Finance for group reporting — the consolidation solution built into S/4HANA on the Universal Journal — typically paired with SAP Analytics Cloud for group reporting output. Customers should note that functional parity with SAP FC's most complex scenarios is still maturing, which is precisely why early gap analysis matters.
Group-finance and consolidation teams running SAP FC — including everyone who still calls it Cartesis or BFC — are the audience: a 2030 deadline for a statutory-close platform means target selection and migration should be planned well within this decade.
