SAP BW/4HANA 2023 is a more recent release of SAP's HANA-optimised data warehouse, carrying a longer maintenance horizon than 2021 and serving as a current landing release for BW/4HANA customers.
It became generally available on 30 October 2023. SAP mainstream maintenance runs until 31 December 2030 — beyond which no further support packages, legal updates or standard fixes are produced by SAP for this version. Crucially, SAP offers no extended-maintenance phase for this release, so the mainstream date is a hard cut-off rather than the start of a paid extension — there is no buying of extra time at the version level. That horizon looks comfortable, but because conversions and re-implementations commonly span multiple years, early roadmap placement still pays off.
As with the rest of the line, the successor is the next BW/4HANA release via upgrade, with SAP Datasphere as the cloud-strategic alternative. Its longer window gives teams more room to plan.
Analytics teams choosing a BW/4HANA landing release will find 2023 a stable, well-supported option; the mainstream date (with no extension) is the planning anchor for the next upgrade.
