SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.3 is the on-premise business-intelligence platform suite — Web Intelligence, Crystal Reports, the BI launchpad, the semantic-layer universes and related tooling — that many organisations rely on for operational and enterprise reporting. A defining strength is its independence from any single source system, which is why it persists in landscapes well beyond pure-SAP reporting and often serves as the corporate reporting standard.
It became generally available on 12 June 2020. SAP mainstream maintenance runs until 31 December 2026 — after which SAP no longer ships corrections, legal changes or new support package stacks for this version. Crucially, SAP offers no extended-maintenance phase for this release, so the mainstream date is a hard cut-off rather than the start of a paid extension — there is no buying of extra time at the version level. With the deadline close, organisations still on this release have little slack left and should already be executing — not just planning — their move.
The on-premise successor is the next BusinessObjects BI release (2025), which keeps the suite available for customers committed to on-premise or private-cloud reporting, while SAP Analytics Cloud represents the strategic direction for cloud BI. Most organisations either upgrade BusinessObjects in place to stay current, or begin a phased shift of content and users toward SAP Analytics Cloud — frequently running both for a period.
BI and reporting teams on 4.3 should track the upgrade to the next on-premise release while weighing a longer-term SAC strategy for cloud analytics. With no extended-maintenance phase offered, the mainstream date is the firm planning anchor; report owners and platform administrators should inventory critical reports and universes early, since reporting outages tend to be highly visible to the business.
