SAP BPC 2021, for SAP BW/4HANA, is the BW/4HANA-aligned release of SAP's planning and consolidation application, the more modern footing for BPC customers who moved onto the BW/4HANA platform.
It became generally available on 1 November 2021. SAP mainstream maintenance runs until 31 December 2030 — after which SAP no longer ships corrections, legal changes or new support package stacks for this version. Crucially, SAP offers no extended-maintenance phase for this release, so the mainstream date is a hard cut-off rather than the start of a paid extension — there is no buying of extra time at the version level. That horizon looks comfortable, but because conversions and re-implementations commonly span multiple years, early roadmap placement still pays off.
SAP's strategic direction for planning is SAP Analytics Cloud planning, with SAP Datasphere underpinning the data layer; BPC 2021 is therefore best seen as a bridge while planning moves to the cloud portfolio.
FP&A and finance-IT teams on BPC 2021 should note it carries a single mainstream window with no extended phase, and use that horizon to plan their move to SAC planning rather than assuming a further BPC release.
