SAP R/1 was SAP's first commercial product (originally 'System RF'), a 1970s mainframe financial-accounting system that launched the company. It is of historical interest rather than operational relevance today, anchoring the lineage that leads to modern SAP ERP.
It first shipped around 1973. As a continuously delivered cloud service it follows a rolling-release model: SAP updates it on a regular cadence and publishes no single end-of-maintenance date, so there is no countdown clock for the line as a whole. Individual data-center releases may carry their own short windows, but customers are kept current automatically rather than facing a version cliff.
R/1 gave way to the two-tier R/2 and ultimately the three-tier R/3 and SAP ERP. It records the starting point of the product family rather than a system anyone migrates from now.
