Overview

SAP NetWeaver Master Data Management (SAP MDM) was SAP's earlier master-data platform, used to consolidate and distribute master data such as material, customer and supplier records across a landscape.

It is the predecessor to SAP Master Data Governance (MDG); SAP steered customers from MDM to MDG, which offers governed, workflow-driven master-data management aligned with the Business Suite / S/4HANA stack.

Organisations that ran NetWeaver MDM have moved, or should move, to SAP MDG (classic add-on or MDG embedded in S/4HANA), often alongside SAP Datasphere for distribution via the business data fabric.
