Hybris was the Swiss-founded (1997), Munich-based enterprise e-commerce platform that SAP acquired on 1 August 2013 to anchor its commerce portfolio. Sold as SAP Hybris Commerce after the acquisition, it powered B2B and B2C storefronts on a Java/Spring architecture whose core carries through to today's platform.
In 2018 SAP retired the Hybris brand: the platform was renamed SAP Commerce, adopting calendar versioning from release v1808, and the managed cloud offering became SAP Commerce Cloud. The on-premise line continued through to release 2205, the final on-premise version.
The lineage therefore runs Hybris to SAP Commerce (on-premise, ending with 2205) to SAP Commerce Cloud, and many practitioners still say 'Hybris' when they mean either of the successors.
This entry is lineage and search context for teams that encounter the Hybris name in older architectures, contracts or job descriptions; there is no live maintenance clock on the historical brand itself.
