Overview

Compatibility packs are time-limited usage rights that let SAP S/4HANA customers keep running certain classic ECC functions whose strategic successors are not yet (or never will be) fully native in S/4HANA. They are a bridge, not a permanent licence, and are governed by a specific SAP compatibility-scope matrix.

The associated usage rights expire 31 December 2030.

The intended path is to move each affected process to its native S/4HANA successor (or a designated cloud service) before the usage right lapses. Which functions are covered, and until when, is defined per item in SAP's compatibility-scope documentation.

S/4HANA programme owners and licensing/compliance teams must track compatibility-pack usage rights closely: continuing to run a covered function past its expiry is a licensing and support exposure, so each pack needs a retirement plan.
