Overview

SAP Supply Chain Management (SCM) 7.0 is the Business Suite 7 supply-chain application, best known for APO (Advanced Planning and Optimization) — demand, supply, production and transportation planning — alongside Extended Warehouse Management and Supply Network Collaboration components. Many supply-chain-intensive organisations built business-critical planning processes on it that are now closely tied to operational performance.

It became generally available on 4 May 2009. SAP mainstream maintenance runs until 31 December 2027 — beyond which no further support packages, legal updates or standard fixes are produced by SAP for this version. For customers who opt in, a paid extended-maintenance phase then carries support to 31 December 2030, after which only customer-specific maintenance remains available. That leaves a workable but finite window; given that SAP transformations routinely run multi-year, scoping and budgeting should be underway rather than deferred.

The forward landscape deliberately splits by component: SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP) is the cloud successor to APO planning, embedded EWM and TM now live within SAP S/4HANA, and some scenarios move to dedicated services. That decomposition means an SCM 7.0 exit is usually a multi-track programme — each component mapped to its own successor — rather than a single upgrade, which is why it needs early architectural planning.

Supply-chain and IT planning leaders running APO or other SCM 7.0 components should map each component to its successor well ahead of the deadline. As with the other Business Suite applications, the 2027/2030 dates apply to the latest enhancement packages; the un-enhanced base ends sooner, so confirming the installed level is an essential first step.
