SAP Gateway 2.0 is the NetWeaver component that exposes SAP business logic as OData services, providing the RESTful connectivity layer behind SAP Fiori apps and many modern integrations to classic SAP systems.
It became generally available on 13 October 2011. SAP mainstream maintenance runs until 31 December 2027 — the point after which SAP stops delivering new patches, legal and regulatory updates, and support packages for the release. For customers who opt in, a paid extended-maintenance phase then carries support to 31 December 2030, after which only customer-specific maintenance remains available. That leaves a workable but finite window; given that SAP transformations routinely run multi-year, scoping and budgeting should be underway rather than deferred.
Its functionality is now embedded in SAP S/4HANA and the SAP Fiori front-end server, so the forward path is the S/4HANA stack rather than a standalone Gateway upgrade. Its dates track Business Suite 7.
Developers and Basis teams maintaining OData services on classic stacks should note Gateway's alignment with the NetWeaver/Business Suite deadlines, and plan for the embedded successor as part of the wider S/4HANA move.
