SAP BW 7.5 is the final classic Business Warehouse release and the supported on-premise BW generation for customers not yet on BW/4HANA. Running on the SAP NetWeaver 7.5 stack, it remains widely used for enterprise reporting, financial analytics and operational data marts, and it is often deeply embedded in finance and management reporting processes.
It first shipped around 2015. SAP mainstream maintenance runs until 31 December 2027 — after which SAP no longer ships corrections, legal changes or new support package stacks for this version. For customers who opt in, a paid extended-maintenance phase then carries support to 31 December 2030, after which only customer-specific maintenance remains available. That leaves a workable but finite window; given that SAP transformations routinely run multi-year, scoping and budgeting should be underway rather than deferred.
The strategic successors are SAP BW/4HANA — the HANA-optimised, simplified data warehouse for on-premise and private cloud — and SAP Datasphere for customers re-platforming analytics to the cloud. Customers typically either convert to BW/4HANA, reusing much of their existing model, or take the opportunity to redesign analytics in Datasphere as part of a broader data strategy.
Data-warehouse owners on BW 7.5 should align its Business Suite 7-aligned dates with their wider analytics roadmap and decide deliberately between a BW/4HANA conversion and a cloud move. Because reporting underpins period-end and management decision-making, the migration should be planned with enough lead time to validate every critical query and data flow before support lapses.
